  • Source of Authority

The Board of Trustees of the Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District derives its power and authority from the Illinois Fire Protection District Act (70 ILCS 705/0.01 et seq.), as well as other applicable State and federal statutes, common law, and the State and federal constitutions.

    Board of Trustees

The governing body of the District is the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees has the power to supervise, control, regulate and manage the District, and to make and enforce all necessary ordinances, and rules and regulations for the proper management and conduct of the business of the Board for carrying into effect the objects for which the District was formed. (70 ILCS 705/6).
  • The Board of Trustees is made up of five elected members, which include a President, Secretary and Treasurer. Each Trustee holds a term of six years.
  • Every year at the first meeting in May the Board elects a President, Secretary and Treasurer for a one-year term. The Trustees hold their office until the end of the fiscal year and until their successors are duly appointed. The President is the presiding officer at all meetings. At its first regular meeting in May, the Board shall appoint an Administrative Assistant. The Administrative Assistant keeps minutes of all meetings of the Board on a permanent record form and is the custodian of all papers, book, records, and completed examinations of the Board. (70 ILCS 705/6).
  • Regular Meetings

The Board holds its regular meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:30 pm at Elburn Fire Station 1, 200 E. Route 38, Elburn. All meetings comply with the provisions of the Open Meeting Act. (5 ILCS 120/1 et seq.)

    Special Meetings

Special Meetings are open to the public. The Administrative Assistant posts written notice with the agenda forty-eight hours prior to the scheduled meeting. This notice contains a brief statement of the business to be submitted for the consideration by the Board, and will set forth the time and place of the meeting. (5 ILCS 120/2.02(a))

    Closed Meetings

During any meeting, a closed session may be held upon a proper motion, made by any member of the Board. These meetings can be called for any reason set forth in 5 ILCS 120/2 or any other reason authorized by law. Closed sessions may be limited to Board members and other persons as the Board may deem necessary. The Administrative Assistant will record the motion to close the meeting, record the roll call vote of the members on any motion and keep minutes of the closed session. (5 ILCS 120/2a;2(c))
